Нужна ли гражданам страны Ghana виза в United States?
Section 214(b) is wider than ties: a refusal means the officer was not convinced the applicant qualified for the visa. The most common route to that refusal is failing to convince the officer they are not an intending immigrant, and thin ties to Ghana are usually the evidence behind it, not the definition of it. There is no appeal, and the $185 fee is not refunded.
- Complete the DS-160 online. Fill out Form DS-160 at ceac.state.gov/genniv. Every answer must match your passport and documents exactly. Print the confirmation page with the barcode for your interview.
- Pay the $185 MRV application fee. Pay the machine-readable visa fee before scheduling; keep the receipt. It is non-refundable. Budget separately for the $250 Visa Integrity Fee once the State Department begins collecting it at issuance (expected before 30 Sept 2026).
- Book your appointment at the US Embassy in Accra. Use the official US visa appointment service for Ghana to schedule your biometrics and interview. Compare available dates and apply early, waits move with demand.
- Attend the interview and answer about your ties. The officer is assessing whether you qualify: a refusal under Section 214(b) means they were not convinced you did, and on visitor cases the doubt is usually about whether you will return to Ghana. Answer briefly and honestly about your work, studies, family, and trip, and bring evidence of ties. Lead with a clear, consistent story; the interview is short.
- After approval: passport return and the I-94. If approved, your passport is returned with the visa (often 10-year) via the courier option you chose. The visa lets you travel TO a US port of entry; CBP sets your authorised stay on your I-94 at arrival. Check it at i94.cbp.dhs.gov and never overstay.
Частые вопросы
Do Ghanaian citizens need a visa to visit the United States?
Yes. Ghana is not part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so there is no ESTA for Ghanaian passport holders, you need a B1/B2 visitor visa for tourism (B2) or business (B1). You apply and interview at the US Embassy in Accra before travelling.
How much does a US visa cost for Ghanaians in 2026?
The B1/B2 application fee (the MRV fee) is $185 USD, paid before your interview and non-refundable whether or not the visa is approved. A separate $250 Visa Integrity Fee was signed into law in July 2025 and will be charged at issuance, but as of mid-2026 the State Department has not begun collecting it, so applicants currently pay the $185. Once implemented (expected before 30 September 2026) the effective total rises to about $435. Confirm at travel.state.gov before paying.
How long is the wait for a US visa appointment in Ghana?
It varies with demand, and you should check the live figure at the travel.state.gov Global Visa Wait Times tool for Accra before planning. Apply at least two to three months before you intend to travel, and after the interview allow roughly 3-4 weeks for processing and passport return.
How long is a US visa valid for Ghanaians?
B1/B2 visas are typically issued with multiple entries and up to 10-year validity, subject to reciprocity. Important: the visa's validity is not your permitted stay. Each time you travel, US Customs and Border Protection decides how long you may remain and records it on your I-94 (commonly up to six months for tourism). Check your I-94 at i94.cbp.dhs.gov after entry and never overstay, regardless of how many years the visa is valid.
Why are B1/B2 visas refused for Ghanaian applicants?
Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act presumes every visitor-visa applicant intends to immigrate, and the applicant has to establish that they qualify for the visa they applied for. A refusal under it means the officer was not convinced of that, so a stronger ties picture is usually part of the answer, alongside a documented purpose and a funding story that holds together. A 214(b) refusal cannot be appealed, but you can reapply; only meaningfully stronger evidence changes the outcome. There is no fixed bank-balance requirement, and unexplained recent large deposits tend to hurt rather than help.
What happens at the interview, and how should I prepare?
The interview is short and credibility-driven. The consular officer is assessing whether you qualify, and under Section 214(b) a refusal means they were not convinced you did; on visitor cases the doubt is usually about whether you will return to Ghana. They decide largely on how clearly and consistently you answer about your work, studies, family, and trip. Answer briefly and honestly, bring evidence of your ties, and make sure every answer matches your DS-160. Memorised speeches and inconsistent documents are what go wrong.
Can I skip the in-person interview (interview waiver)?
Usually only for certain renewals. From 1 October 2025 the State Department narrowed the interview waiver to, in general, applicants renewing a full-validity B1/B2 visa that expired within the last 12 months, who were at least 18 when the prior visa was issued, who apply in their country of nationality or residence, and who have never been refused. First-time applicants must attend an interview, and an officer can require one in any case.
