    速览:从Nigeria申请United States签证

    办理时长
The official appointment service gives no standard processing time (pages read 13 October 2026). Interview dates are shown in your account once the fee is confirmed, and a notice dated 7 October 2025 says its call centre cannot offer earlier ones. Where a case needs administrative processing under Section 221(g), the service says processing times can vary with individual circumstances and that the Embassy or Consulate contacts you when it is complete.
    签证费
$185 MRV application fee for the B visitor visa (official US visa appointment service for Nigeria, 13 October 2026), non-refundable and valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. The Embassy says nationals of Nigeria found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must also post a bond of up to $20,000 before it is issued. A Visa Integrity Fee of $250 or more was enacted in July 2025 (Public Law 119-21) but is not listed on that page; confirm before paying.

A presidential proclamation in force since 1 January 2026 suspends the entry of nationals of Nigeria on B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas. It applies only to people who were outside the United States on that date and held no valid visa that day, and it lists exceptions. The US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says people subject to it may still apply and attend interviews but may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States. Where a B1/B2 visa can be issued, the Embassy says nationals of Nigeria who are found otherwise eligible must first post a bond of up to $20,000. Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act also presumes every visitor-visa applicant intends to immigrate, so the applicant has to show they qualify for the visa they applied for. A refusal under it means the officer was not convinced the applicant qualified. The $185 application fee is not refunded.

    1. Check whether the proclamation covers your trip. Proclamation 10998 suspends the entry of nationals of Nigeria on B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas. It applies only to people who were outside the United States on 1 January 2026 and held no valid visa that day, and it lists exceptions. The Embassy says people subject to it may still apply and attend interviews but may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States, and the $185 application fee is not refunded. Read the scope and the exceptions before you pay.
    2. Complete the DS-160 online. Each applicant, including minors, completes and submits Form DS-160 on the State Department website (the Embassy's page links to ceac.state.gov/genniv). Keep the confirmation page with the confirmation number (it starts with AA): you enter that number when you book, and the page you bring to the interview must show the same number. Phones are not allowed inside, so bring it on paper.
    3. Register and pay on the official appointment service. Create your account at usvisaappt.com, click "Create New", enter your details and your DS-160 confirmation number, and pay the $185 fee there: by bank deposit in local currency through First Bank of Nigeria (the deposit slip expires after three days, and the bank needs one business day to process the payment) or by card in US dollars. The fee is non-refundable and valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
    4. Pick your interview date in Lagos. Once payment is confirmed, your account shows the calendar of available interview appointments. Since 1 August 2026, the Embassy says, routine visa services are available only at the Consulate General in Lagos. The appointment service says the interview waiver option is not currently available in Nigeria, so plan for an in-person interview. If you have not yet submitted your DS-160, the service's page for Nigeria asks you to do so at least three business days before the interview.
    5. Attend the interview, and post the bond only if you are told to. Go to the Consulate General at 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, with your required documents, including the DS-160 confirmation whose number matches your booking, and leave phones, electronics and large bags elsewhere: the service says on-site storage is generally unavailable. If the officer finds you otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa, the Embassy says you must post a bond of up to $20,000 before it can be issued: pay it only on the website named in the instructions the consular officer gives you, and only after you are told to.
    6. Collect your passport, then check your I-94 after you enter. When your passport is released, register at appointment.oisservices.com and book a pickup at an OIS office; it cannot be collected at the Embassy or the Consulate. A visa issued after a bond is posted is valid for three months or up to 12 months, depending on visa reciprocity, and the bond requires you to enter and leave through a commercial airport. After you enter the United States, you can look up your I-94 on the CBP I-94 website (i94.cbp.dhs.gov), which displays its Admit Until Date.

    常见问题

Do Nigerian citizens need a visa to visit the United States?

Yes. Nigeria is not on the Visa Waiver Program country list published by the Department of Homeland Security, so there is no ESTA option for Nigerian passport holders and a visa is needed to visit the United States. Read the next answer before you plan anything: since 1 January 2026 a presidential proclamation suspends the entry of nationals of Nigeria on visitor, student and exchange visas, unless they fall outside its scope or under one of its exceptions.

Is there a US visa ban on Nigerians in 2026?

There is a partial suspension of entry, not a complete one. Proclamation 10998, signed on 16 December 2025 and effective from 1 January 2026, lists Nigeria among the countries under a partial suspension (section 5). It suspends the entry into the United States of nationals of Nigeria as immigrants, and as nonimmigrants on B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas, and it tells consular officers to reduce the validity of any other nonimmigrant visa issued to nationals of Nigeria to the extent permitted by law. The suspension applies only to people who were outside the United States on the effective date and did not hold a valid visa on that date, and the proclamation says no visa issued before that date is revoked under it. The exceptions it lists include lawful permanent residents of the United States; a dual national of a country the proclamation lists who travels on a passport issued by a country it does not list; people travelling on a valid nonimmigrant visa in the classes it names (A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3, G-1 to G-4 and NATO-1 to NATO-6); and athletes, members of an athletic team, coaches, people in a necessary support role and immediate relatives travelling for the World Cup, the Olympics or another major sporting event as determined by the Secretary of State. It also allows exceptions case by case: where the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security finds that the travel would serve a United States national interest, or where the Attorney General finds that it would advance a critical national interest involving the Department of Justice, such as a witness needed in criminal proceedings. The US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says applicants who are subject to the proclamation may still submit visa applications and attend scheduled interviews, but may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States. The proclamation calls for a report to the President every 180 days on whether its suspensions should be continued, ended, changed or added to. The Embassy's notice sends readers to travel.state.gov for details, so check there before you apply.

Where do I apply now: Lagos or Abuja?

Lagos. The US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says routine visa services are only available at the Consulate General in Lagos: since 1 August 2026 the Embassy in Abuja no longer processes routine visa applications and provides only official and diplomatic visa services. The Embassy says appointments that were already scheduled will be honoured, that applicants whose appointments were rescheduled should check their email for the new date, and that an unused and still-valid fee receipt may be used to schedule a new appointment in Lagos. On the Embassy's page, the Lagos entry gives the address 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos, and lists business hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The page does not say whose hours these are, so go at the date and time on your appointment confirmation. The appointment service's locations page still lists the Embassy in Abuja beside the Consulate General, so go by the Embassy's page and the address on your appointment confirmation.

How much does a US visa cost for Nigerians in 2026?

The B visitor visa application fee (the MRV fee) is $185, as listed on the fee page of the official US visa appointment service for Nigeria on 13 October 2026. It is non-refundable and non-transferable, it must be paid whether the application is approved or refused, and it is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. You pay inside your account on the service: by bank deposit (cash or electronic funds transfer) in local currency through First Bank of Nigeria, with a deposit slip that expires after three days, or by card in US dollars. The service says payment through it is the only acceptable way to pay the fee. A separate Visa Integrity Fee was enacted on 4 July 2025 (Public Law 119-21, section 100007). The law sets it at $250 or more for a nonimmigrant visa, on top of any other fee, and adjusts it for inflation each fiscal year from 2026. It is not listed on that fee page. The fee page also says applicants from certain countries may have to pay a reciprocity fee, which is not paid on the service: the Embassy or Consulate tells you how to pay it after the application is approved. The pages read for this guide do not say whether one applies to Nigerian applicants. Separately, a State Department temporary rule in force from 1 July to 31 December 2026 describes the MRV fee as currently $185 for B1/B2 applicants (last updated in May 2023) and says it is not anticipated to change while that rule is in force. The same rule created an optional $750 fee for an expedited B1/B2 interview appointment, offered only at a limited number of embassies and consulates published on travel.state.gov, and in limited quantities; none of the pages read for this guide says it is offered in Lagos. The visa bond is a separate payment and is covered below. Confirm at travel.state.gov before paying.

Do Nigerian applicants have to post a US visa bond?

Yes, if the officer finds you otherwise eligible. The US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says nationals of Nigeria who are found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must post a bond of up to $20,000 before the visa can be issued, and that this applies regardless of where they apply. The interviewing officer tells you whether you are eligible and gives the instructions; the Embassy says to post the bond only on the website named in those instructions and only after a consular officer tells you to. Under the State Department rule that made the Visa Bond Program permanent on 3 August 2026, the amount is $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 as the officer decides, with officers expected to set $15,000 unless the applicant's circumstances point to a lower or higher amount, and it is paid in US dollars through the Treasury payment platform at Pay.gov. There is no application for a waiver of the bond: the rule says the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs may waive it where that would not be contrary to the national interest, and that consular officers can ask for a waiver only in very limited circumstances, such as travel for US government employees or urgent humanitarian needs. The list of covered countries is published at travel.state.gov and can change. Under the rule the officer refuses the visa under Section 221(g) while the bond is outstanding, and that refusal can be overcome once a bond in the required amount is posted. The Embassy ties the bond to applicants found otherwise eligible, and says people subject to the proclamation may be ineligible for visa issuance, so check the proclamation first.

What happens to the visa and the bond after I post it?

The rule says that once the bond is posted the officer may issue a visa valid for three months with a single entry, three months with multiple entries, or up to 12 months with multiple entries, depending on visa reciprocity, with an annotation showing that a bond was posted. As a condition of the bond you may enter and leave the United States only through commercial airports, including CBP Preclearance locations, and not through land or sea ports. The rule lists when the bond is returned: for example when the visa expires and you did not travel, or when the visa has expired and you complied with its terms and left through a commercial airport on or before the date to which you were authorized to remain. Where an extension of stay is approved, it counts a timely departure before the extended date. A traveller who breaches the bond would generally forfeit the amount.

Can I skip the interview (interview waiver or "Dropbox") in Nigeria?

No, not as a routine option. The official appointment service says the interview waiver option is not currently available in Nigeria. A notice on the service dated 7 August 2025 also lists Nigeria among the countries whose nationals and citizens, including those renewing a visa, must attend an in-person interview with a consular officer, wherever they apply. Under its heading on reasonable accommodation, the Embassy's page says interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.

How do I book the interview, and what do I need to know about my DS-160?

Appointments are booked in your account on the official appointment service, usvisaappt.com. Each applicant, including minors, first completes and submits a DS-160 online. You then register and log in, click "Create New" in "My Dashboard", choose the country and visa type, enter your personal, contact and passport details with your DS-160 confirmation number, pay the fee, and pick a date from the calendar of available appointments. Since 1 May 2025 you must bring a DS-160 whose confirmation or barcode number (it starts with AA) matches the one used to make your appointment; the service says that if they do not match you will not be able to attend your interview. If your DS-160 number has changed, raise a support ticket from your account well in advance. The service's application-process page for Nigeria says the number can be changed no later than three business days before the appointment and asks you to submit your DS-160 at least three business days before your interview if you have not already submitted it; a notice on its home page gives two business days for both, so work to three. In a notice dated 7 October 2025 the service says its call centre cannot offer earlier dates, because appointments are set by the Embassy or Consulate.

What happens on the day of the interview in Lagos?

The appointment service says to go to the Consulate with your required documents on the date and time of your appointment, and to read its security rules first. Visitors may not bring in battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, large shoulder bags or purses, sealed envelopes or packages, liquids, or food and drinks, among other items, and the service says on-site storage is generally unavailable, so arrange to leave such things elsewhere; it adds that failing to follow the rules may cost you the appointment. It says the Consulate General in Lagos can help with translation in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Pidgin, Ibibio, Edo and French; for any other language you bring your own translator. Parents and guardians may accompany applicants under 18, and anyone who comes in with an applicant as a translator, helper, parent or guardian must show government-issued picture identification. The officer assesses whether you qualify for the visa you applied for. Answer honestly and keep every answer consistent with your DS-160.

Why are B1/B2 visas refused, and can I apply again?

Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act presumes every visitor-visa applicant is an intending immigrant until they show the consular officer that they are entitled to nonimmigrant status. A refusal under it means the officer was not convinced the applicant qualified. You can apply again: the appointment service says that if an application is denied you must pay a new application fee if you wish to apply again.

What is the US visitor visa refusal rate for Nigerians?

The State Department's table of adjusted refusal rates for B visas by nationality gives 57.00% for Nigeria in fiscal year 2025 (read on 13 October 2026). The table covers B visitor visas only and counts applicants by nationality, not by the embassy or consulate where they applied. A rate for a whole nationality does not say how any one application will be decided.

What is a 221(g) refusal, and what is administrative processing?

The appointment service says a denial under Section 221(g) means the consular officer did not have all the information required to conclude that you are eligible, for one of two reasons: your application is incomplete or further documents are required, or it needs additional administrative processing. In the first case you are given a letter listing the documents to provide; in the second the Embassy or Consulate contacts you when the processing is complete. The service gives no time limit: it says processing times can vary with individual circumstances. You can check your application status on the State Department website. Documents asked for under 221(g) can be submitted only to the Embassy or Consulate that is already processing your application. For drop-off, the service says you must hand them in in the consular city where you intend to apply for the visa, and that documents are not sent between consular cities. It lists free drop-off by appointment at the OIS offices in Abuja and Lagos (the courier locations the service uses) and a paid service at other OIS and DHL offices; register first at appointment.oisservices.com. Routine visa services are now only in Lagos, so follow the instructions in your 221(g) letter when you choose an office.

How do I get my passport back?

Not at the Embassy or the Consulate: the appointment service says personal pickup there is not possible. You are notified when your passport is released, and you then register at appointment.oisservices.com to book a pickup. Free pickup is by appointment only at the OIS offices in Abuja (28B, Pope John Paul II Street, Maitama District) and Lagos (14, Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island), between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; bring your original government-issued photo ID and a printout of the pickup appointment confirmation. Premium pickup is a paid service at the OIS offices in Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt and at DHL offices in Akure, Benin City, Enugu, Ibadan, Isolo and Kaduna. The service says premium fees must be paid online when you schedule the pickup and that no payments are accepted on-site.

I am a Nigerian living abroad. Can I apply where I live?

The Embassy says applicants for nonimmigrant visas should schedule their interview at the US embassy or consulate in their country of residence or nationality. Three things follow you wherever you apply. The proclamation turns on nationality, with an exception for a dual national who travels on a passport issued by a country the proclamation does not list. The Embassy says the B1/B2 bond requirement for nationals of Nigeria applies regardless of place of application. And the notice of 7 August 2025 says nationals and citizens of the listed countries must attend an in-person interview regardless of the place of their application.

How long is a US visa valid, and how long can I stay?

For a B-1/B-2 visitor, the visa does not set how long you may stay. The State Department's visa bond rule says a B-1/B-2 visitor's authorized period of stay is fixed by Customs and Border Protection officers on admission at the port of entry. Your admission is recorded on a Form I-94. CBP encourages travellers who need the information on their I-94 record to get it from the I-94 website (i94.cbp.dhs.gov) or the CBP Link mobile app, and its page says unexpired I-94s in the current format stay valid until the Admit Until Date printed on a paper I-94 or the date displayed on that website. As for the visa itself: for visas in other classes (not B, F, M or J) the proclamation tells consular officers to reduce validity to the extent permitted by law. For a B1/B2 visa issued after a bond is posted, the bond rule allows three months with a single entry, three months with multiple entries, or up to 12 months with multiple entries, depending on visa reciprocity. None of the pages read for this guide says which of these applies to Nigeria.
