US Visa for Ghanaians: Complete 2026 Guide (B1/B2)

TravelReady bunu yapar. Aşağıda ücretsiz kontrol.

Kısa bilgiler: Ghana noktasından United States vizesi

    İşlem süresi
The appointment service for Ghana gives no standard processing time (pages read 13 October 2026). Where a case needs administrative processing under Section 221(g), it says processing times can vary with individual circumstances and that the Embassy contacts you when it is complete. Available interview dates are shown in your account on the service; a notice dated 7 October 2025 says its call centre cannot offer earlier ones.
    Vize ücreti
$185 MRV application fee for the B visitor visa (official US visa appointment service for Ghana, 13 October 2026), non-refundable and valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. A Visa Integrity Fee of $250 or more was enacted in July 2025 (Public Law 119-21) but is not listed on that page; confirm before paying.

Ghana vatandaşları United States için vizeye ihtiyaç duyar mı?

Evet.

Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act presumes every visitor-visa applicant intends to immigrate, so the applicant has to show they qualify for the visa they applied for. A refusal under it means the officer was not convinced the applicant qualified. Ties to Ghana are evidence the officer weighs, not the whole test. The US Embassy in Ghana says all applicants require an interview, and its appointment service says the interview waiver is not currently available in Ghana. The $185 application fee is not refunded.

    1. Complete the DS-160 online. Fill out Form DS-160 on the State Department website (ceac.state.gov); each applicant, including minors, needs one. Keep the confirmation page with the confirmation number (it starts with AA): you enter it when you book, and the one you bring to the interview must match.
    2. Register and pay on the official appointment service. Create your account at usvisaappt.com, click "Create New", enter your details and your DS-160 confirmation number, and pay the $185 fee there: by bank deposit in local currency through GT Bank (the deposit slip expires after three days, and the bank needs one business day to process the payment) or by card in US dollars. The fee is non-refundable and valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
    3. Pick your interview date. Once payment is confirmed, your account shows the calendar of available interview appointments. The interview waiver is not currently available in Ghana, so every applicant needs an in-person interview; through the appointment service for Ghana that interview is at the US Embassy in Accra. Submit your DS-160 at least two business days before it.
    4. Attend the interview at the US Embassy in Accra. Go to the Consular Section entrance on Fifth Link Road with a government-issued photo ID, your DS-160 confirmation page and your printed appointment confirmation. Leave phones, electronics and large bags behind, because the Embassy does not store them. The officer assesses whether you qualify for the visa you applied for. Answer honestly and keep every answer consistent with your DS-160.
    5. If you are refused under Section 221(g). You are given a letter. If documents are missing, it lists them and says how to provide them; if your case needs administrative processing, the Embassy contacts you when that is complete. You can check your application status on the State Department website.
    6. Collect your passport, then check your I-94 after you enter. When the Embassy releases your passport, register at appointment.oisservices.com and book a pickup at the OIS office in Labone, Accra; it cannot be collected at the Embassy. After you enter the United States, look up your I-94 at i94.cbp.dhs.gov; its Admit Until Date shows how long you were admitted for.

    Sıkça sorulan sorular

Do Ghanaian citizens need a visa to visit the United States?

Yes. Ghana is not on the Visa Waiver Program country list published by the Department of Homeland Security, so there is no ESTA option for Ghanaian passport holders. You need a B visitor visa. The Embassy says applicants should schedule their interview at the US embassy or consulate in their country of residence or nationality.

How much does a US visa cost for Ghanaians in 2026?

The B visitor visa application fee (the MRV fee) is $185, as listed on the fee page of the official US visa appointment service for Ghana on 13 October 2026. It is non-refundable and non-transferable, it must be paid whether the application is approved or refused, and it is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. You pay inside your account on the service: by bank deposit (cash or electronic funds transfer) in local currency through GT Bank, with a deposit slip that expires after three days, or by card in US dollars. The service says payment through it is the only acceptable way to pay the fee. A separate Visa Integrity Fee was enacted on 4 July 2025 (Public Law 119-21, section 100007). The law sets it at $250 or more for a nonimmigrant visa, on top of any other fee, and adjusts it for inflation each fiscal year from 2026. It is not listed on that fee page. Separately, a State Department temporary rule in force from 1 July to 31 December 2026 says the MRV fee is set at $185 for B1/B2 applicants and is not anticipated to change while that rule is in force. Confirm at travel.state.gov before paying.

Can I skip the in-person interview (interview waiver)?

No. The US Embassy in Ghana says all applicants require an interview, and its appointment service says the interview waiver option is not currently available in Ghana. A notice on the service dated 7 August 2025 also lists Ghana among the countries whose nationals and citizens, including those renewing a visa, must attend an in-person interview with a consular officer, wherever they apply. Follow the application process on the service to book a nonimmigrant visa interview.

How do I book an appointment, and can I get an earlier one?

Appointments are booked in your account on the official appointment service, usvisaappt.com. After you submit the DS-160 you register and log in, click "Create New" in "My Dashboard", choose the country and visa type, enter your personal, contact and passport details with your DS-160 confirmation number, pay the fee, and then pick a date from the calendar of available appointments. In a notice dated 7 October 2025 the service says its call centre cannot offer earlier dates, because appointments are set by the Embassy, and that you can see what is available in your own account. If you have an urgent, unforeseen need to travel, the Embassy says you may qualify for an expedited appointment, for example for medical care, bereavement or urgent business, but that very few are available and it cannot guarantee an interview before your planned travel date.

What do I need to know about my DS-160?

Each applicant, including minors, completes and submits a DS-160 online. Since 1 May 2025 you must bring a DS-160 whose confirmation or barcode number (it starts with AA) matches the one used to make your appointment; the appointment service says that if they do not match you will not be able to attend your interview. If your DS-160 number has changed, raise a support ticket from your account well in advance: the service can change the number no later than two business days before the appointment. It also asks you to submit your DS-160 at least two business days before your interview.

What happens on the day at the US Embassy in Accra?

The Embassy says the entrance to the Consular Section is on Fifth Link Road, that interviews are by appointment only, and that only people with a government-issued photo ID are admitted. The two official pages give different street addresses: the Embassy gives its consular services address as No. 19 Fifth Link Road, Cantonments, and the appointment service gives the consular address as No. 24, Fourth Circular Rd., Cantonments. Check the address on your appointment confirmation before you set out. If you are not on the greeter's appointment list for that day you will be denied entry, so log in to your profile and print your latest confirmation page. Every applicant under 14 must be accompanied by one parent or guardian; applicants aged 14 to 17 may be. Mobile phones and other electronic devices, large bags, sealed envelopes and food are among the items you cannot bring in, and the Embassy says it has no facility to store them.

Why are B1/B2 visas refused, and can I apply again?

Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act presumes every visitor-visa applicant is an intending immigrant until they show the consular officer that they are entitled to nonimmigrant status. A refusal under it means the officer was not convinced the applicant qualified. You can apply again: the appointment service says that if an application is denied you must pay a new application fee if you wish to apply again.

What is a 221(g) refusal, and what is administrative processing?

The appointment service says a denial under Section 221(g) means the consular officer did not have all the information required to conclude that you are eligible, for one of two reasons: your application is incomplete or further documents are required, or it needs additional administrative processing. In the first case you are given a letter listing the documents to provide; in the second the Embassy contacts you when the processing is complete. The service gives no time limit: it says processing times can vary with individual circumstances. You can check your application status on the State Department website.

How do I get my passport back?

Not at the Embassy: the appointment service says personal pickup there is not possible. You are notified when the Embassy releases your passport, and you then register at appointment.oisservices.com to book a pickup. Free pickup is by appointment only at the OIS office at BC 53, 8 Peter Ala Adjetey Avenue, Labone, Accra, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; bring your original government-issued photo ID and a printout of the pickup appointment confirmation. Premium options cost extra. The Embassy's page lists premium pickup at DHL offices in Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi and Tema at an additional USD 35, charged in cedis. The two pages differ on how premium fees are paid: the Embassy's page says any payment is done directly at the OIS service office, while the appointment service says premium service fees must be paid online when you schedule your pickup and that no payments are accepted on-site at courier locations. Follow the instructions in your account.

How long is a US visa valid, and how long can I stay?

The validity of the visa and its number of entries are printed on the visa the officer issues; they are not the length of your stay. When you enter the United States your admission is recorded on your I-94, which shows an Admit Until Date. After you enter, look up your record at i94.cbp.dhs.gov to see your Admit Until Date.

Does the 2026 US entry restriction proclamation cover Ghana?

Proclamation 10998, signed on 16 December 2025 and effective from 1 January 2026, suspends or limits entry and visa issuance for nationals of the countries it names, and for people applying with Palestinian Authority travel documents. Ghana is not among the countries named in the text published in the Federal Register (checked on 13 October 2026). The Embassy says applicants who are subject to the proclamation may still apply and attend interviews but may be ineligible for a visa. The list can change, so read the Department of State notice before you apply.
